Using 811 to Prevent 911: Utilizing Accurate Utility Data for Damage Prevention

Presented by Chris Akin from Paratum Solutions, Sara Taylor from Texas811, and Tom Shewan from MD Anderson.

Hospital campuses are like little cities with lots of assets and infrastructure. Unfortunately, underground utilities are at a high risk of damage due to facilities inability to accurately locate and share this information to contractors, field crews, and construction teams.

The Texas811 mission is to prevent damages by consuming information from excavators and notifying utility owners when and what type of excavation work will occur. However, many hospital campuses do not have a centralized utility network mapped and documented in a GIS mapping system, inhibiting the damage prevention process.

Join us to learn about:

1) MD Anderson Cancer Center’s experience with line strikes on undocumented utilities,

2) How GIS can add value to your organization's complex utility network by centralizing your disparate utility information into an authoritative utility dataset accessible to field staff through mobile devices, and

3) How your utility information can then be tied into Texas811, further increasing operational awareness, and reducing risks in the field.
