Active Shooter Response

Description of Presentation:

Data on mass shootings show a 40% increase in the number of mass shootings from 2014 to 2016. According to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics, shootings were the cause of 85% of workplace homicides in 2015. Terrorist and active shooter attacks have created a general state of public anxiety causing false active shooter alarms, panic behavior in crowds, stampedes and reputation-damming social media “trending”. On the opposite end of the spectrum, gunfire can easily be mistaken for other loud noises, or not heard at all from those in direct risk from an active shooter, causing delayed reporting and higher casualties.

Without gunshot detection, what determines that there is in fact a shooting incident unfolding and not a false alarm? In an exploration of gunshot detection this educational session will cover best practices for utilizing gunshot detection technology from evaluation through tactical training for the ultimate goal – saving lives in an active shooter incident.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discover Gunshot Detection Capabilities and Integration Options to Effectively Automate Active Shooter Response

  2. Apply Industry Best Practices for Evaluating and Implementing Gunshot Detection in Facilities

  3. Effectively Incorporate Gunshot Detection into Active Shooter Training and Response Protocols
